As parents will attest, little tikes that aren’t potty trained go through many diapers. Given the constant pressures of modern life on parents, a commitment to washable, reusable cotton nappies is impractical and unfeasible. Unfortunately, that decision comes at the expense of more plastic pollution.
Dyper is a brand of nappies launched in 2018 to make kids’ diapers more sustainable. As an added bonus, they’re also from lotions, chlorine, alcohol, phthalates, and tributyltin (TBT). Dyper also offers an optional program in partnership with TerraCycle to safely compost diapers through curbside pickup in 22 markets or via a mail-in program called Redyper. To date, Dyper claims that Redyper has diverted over 10 million pounds of used diapers from landfills through Redyper and the manufacturing of Byochar, a charcoal-like substance used as a soil supplement.
